Do the authors approach questions of racialization and health through an intersectional, an ecosocial or a structural competency framework? If so, how? The author(s) do not need to explicitly cite one of these frameworks.
Explain how the use of the framework shapes (ONLY 1 Framework) the ‘message’ sent to the audience. If not, make an intervention: explain how the news piece is shaped (or weakened) by the lack of framework.
How would the ‘message’ getting across to the audience change if the authors had used one of these frameworks? How would you write the news piece differently?

Page 1: Summarize the news story. What is the phenomenon taking place at the
intersection of racialization and health that your text describes? How is it taking place?
Social, political and historical context?
Page 2: Do the authors approach questions of racialization and health through an
intersectional, an ecosocial or a structural competency framework? If so, how? Explain how the use of the framework shapes the ‘message’ sent to the audience. This is your chance to show that you understand these frameworks, as well as their value in illuminating the intersection between processes of racialization and health inequities. • If not, show why not! Show that you understand these frameworks by referring to at least two assigned readings, and show that your text departs from these frameworks (i.e. if the news story does not refer to structural determinants of health, it might be attributing health inequalities to “lifestyle choices” or carrying out other forms of victim- blaming, to name one example).
