The second Major Project for the the class will be an interpretive essay. Choose a short story from the list below to interpret (.pdfs available in the Pages section of the course site.) Craft a thesis that offers your reader an answer to the question “what does the story mean?” and build an essay that supports that interpretation. You may use the Ivy Tech library for some research if you wish, but it is not required for this assignment. 5-7 pages, MLA or APA style.
A word of caution: Google, Wikipedia, etc. are not your friend for this assignment. I am much more interested in your ideas and interpretations than I am in your ability to repeat the ideas you can find online. Short Story “Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin
