An important element to your future career success is being able to identify the skills (i.e., competencies) that employers are interested in and then working to excel and grow in those areas. This week you will visit the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) website to discover the eight career-readiness competencies that employers have identified as useful for students to know. When visiting the NACE website, review the list of the eight career readiness competencies and see how each competency is defined. Please note that you will not only discuss the competencies this week, but you will also use the NACE career-readiness competencies in your Week 5 Personal Development Plan.
Prepare:
Before attempting this discussion,
Read Career Readiness Defined https://www.naceweb.org/career-readiness/competencies/career-readiness-defined/(Links to an external site.) from the NACE website and review the names and definitions of the eight career-readiness competencies.
Download and save the NACE Competencies (Links to an external site.)
Complete the NACE Competencies: Developing Career Readiness (Links to an external site.)interactive: https://content.bridgepointeducation.com/curriculum/file/b2b4b0ea-eb71-410d-91de-4ff21d8dbdde/1/NACE%20Competencies%20Developing%20Career%20Readiness.zip/story.html
Reflect:
Reflect on the self-assessment section within the interactive (above) and think about the competencies you are excelling at, currently developing, and the ones you need to develop. Think about how these skills can help you reach your academic and professional goals.
Write:
In your initial discussion forum post,
Identify the two NACE competencies that you feel are your strongest (i.e., strengths).
Which two of the eight competencies are your strongest? Which are you excelling at?
Provide two real-life examples of how you have used those skills personally, academically, or in the workplace.
Identify the two NACE competencies that are your weakest (i.e., areas of opportunity).
Which ones do you need to work on or develop as skills?
Explain why it would be important to develop those two skills in order to be successful personally, academically, or professionally.
Your initial post should be a minimum of 250 words
