Tips
In general, here are things I look for in a paper:
A clear thesis statement somewhere in the first page that tells me what the paper will do.
A good organization.
Think about what you main points will be and pay attention to the transitions between them.
(Outlining is a great strategy for organizing your thoughts).
Smart evidentiary support.
You shouldn’t think of quotes as always being huge block quotes. That often comes across as lazy.
You can have one or two block quotes, but think about quoting smaller bits—like key concepts, turns of phrase, etc.
Clear prose. Clarity is a virtue. Good writing isn’t about using big words and convoluted sentence structure. It is about conveying ideas clearly and in a meaningful way.
