Please submit a list of five academic sources that you hope to use for your first paper. You don’t have to use every one of these sources in the paper, but I expect that you will make a good effort to find sources particularly relevant to your topics from which you can get some good information.
Please list the source in the form of a bibliographical citation. You can find information on how to do that here: How to Cite Sources–sample.pdfActions
For example, for a journal article, you do it like this:
Author last name, first name. “Article Title.” Journal title volume number: issue number (year published): page numbers.
Durham, Walter T. “A Tennessee Baptist Missionary in China: Issachar Jacox Roberts and the Taiping Rebellion, 1837-1866.” Tennessee Historical Quarterly 72, no. 2 (2013): 92–105.
If the source is a book, you can use this format:
Author last name, first name. Book title. City of publication: publishing company, year published
Lin, Xiaoqing Diana. Peking University: Chinese Scholarship and Intellectuals, 1898-1937. Albany: State University of New York Press, 2005.
The next major assignment, will be to show me 25 note cards with pertinent information (perhaps whole sentences or some other information) taken from your sources for the paper, along with the bibliographical information and exact page number from which the information was taken. I expect one piece of information (it could be one sentence, if the sentence contains a discrete bit of information) per card. Note that these 25 pieces of information do not have to come from any of the sources that you will give me on October 24–that is, if after this Tuesday you find sources that are even more relevant to your paper than the ones you gave me, that is fine.
