Fasting Glucose and Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) tests.

When analyzing your health Drs not only relay on Vital Signs, they often perform blood and Urine tests. In this Independent research assignment we will look at some of the most commonly requested tests and how are they used. When researching these tests think about the following questions. What does the tests consist of? When and why would a Dr. request this test? What information would the Dr. gain from the test results? What is considered a normal range result? If the test is too high or two low, what does it imply about your health?

When you look at this section I would like you to do two things. First look back. Try to apply what you learned about Macromolecules and human nutrition, and about how we inherit genes and traits from our parents. Try to tie in these concepts with your research on these tests. For example, What foods contain sugar and other carbohydrates? How do we metabolize these compounds? Can we inherit the genes that make us more likely to have problems with sugar metabolism and Diabetes? Then i would like you to Look Forward, think of things you have not learned yet. For example, what enzyme regulates sugar in the body? Where is it produced? what systems does high sugar levels could affect? This sort of discussion would be a great model to follow in your discussion. A good job in this part could earn you EXTRA CREDIT!!!!
