Students should identify 5 sources relevant to the person, issue, or event they identified in their Illinois People and Events topic statements and organize these sources into an alphabetized, annotated bibliography. Students may not count any of the required course texts in this list. Sources may include books, articles, and/or scholarly websites (from reputable sources like museums, encyclopedias, or newspapers/ magazines). Not more than two sources can be websites. A great place to start looking is the Saint Xavier Library Online Services page, a link to which included on the course’s Home page on Canvas. There you can find the Saint Xavier and I-Share library catalogs, the Central Index and SXU library’s subject page for History with links to Academic Search Complete and JSTOR, excellent places to find peer-reviewed articles on a variety of historical topics.
Your bibliography should follow the formatting guidelines for the Chicago Manual of Style method and entries should be arranged alphabetically. Examples of proper Chicago Manual of Style formatting can be found under the Chicago Manual of Style tab on the Resources for Academic Writing page, included in the Course Materials/ Student Resources Module.
For each source, students should include 3-4 sentences summarizing the focus and main argument of the source and describing how it will enhance your knowledge of your selected topic and/or related themes and issues in Illinois history.
