a) Go to this database of the National Registry of Exonerations:
https://www.law.umich.edu/special/exoneration/Pages/detaillist.aspx
(Scroll down the page of the website and a list of cases should show up).
Choose any case that has not yet.
Explain how someone was falsely convicted and sent to prison
for a crime he or she did not commit.
In a few sentences, explain how we now know the person was completely innocent
because he or she was officially, fully “exonerated” – (not merely found “not guilty” by a jury)
– by a prosecutor, or a judge, or a governor.
b) Copy and paste your answers
and then fill out one row of this chart. (It’s the uploaded document labeled as “Table 1 wrongful convictions”)
Methodological notes:
1) If several people were exonerated for a single criminal incident,
just pick only one of them.
2) Do not pick a case of a woman who was falsely convicted.
3) Do not pick the same man that someone else in the class already has chosen and posted.
