Topic/Condition is: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Note: (Preferably someone who knows about the Eastern Theory)
Component # 1- Eastern Analysis: Look at the organs you choose to involve with IBS condition and focus on three out of the five elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water & Wood) (two primary organs and one supplementary one). Please don’t makeup signs and symptoms.
Component #2- Eastern Treatment: Write the goals and contraindications, delineate what’s holding on in each sequence. Avoid vague words
I’ve attached all of the 5 Elements with their Functions, and Signs&Symptoms of Imbalance. I will also attach a short class note I did about the Stroke condition with its Eastern Analysis, Eastern Goals and Eastern Treatment just to have an idea of how to come up with the organs for IBS condition.
Eastern Analysis: (2 pages full; no empty spaces)
Goal: With the knowledge you have to date, how do you interpret the condition from an
Eastern perspective? What is its etiology? Choose a ‘filter’ that makes sense to you in
regards to the condition (e.g. 5 Elements, Yin/Yang, Triple Heater, etc.) and
analyze the condition including where you think the core imbalance lies.
Include an exploration of:
1. Signs & symptoms and how they were created.
2. How the organs are interrelating and affecting each other in relation to the condition.
3. What specific organ functions have been disrupted.
4. How these dysfunctions are generating the signs & symptoms associated with the
condition and negatively affecting other organs.
Please note for the Eastern Assessment section this part is not about looking in
reference material and finding a Shiatsu analysis of the condition. You will need to take
the information you have about the condition and use your knowledge
from your eastern classes to analyze the disease and
describe its etiology using Eastern Theory.
Eastern Treatment: (2 pages full; no empty spaces)
Goal:
List Treatment Goals and design an appropriate Eastern Shiatsu treatment for the
condition. Be sure to detail (if you plan to Tonify or Disperse, Harmonize, Balance, etc)
and what techniques you would use to accomplish this. Utilize any Eastern techniques
you think may be appropriate and that you can perform with your training (Shiatsu, Tui
Na, Thai). Be creative.
Include in this section:
1. Delineate your treatment providing an explanation of why you chose the techniques/structures to be addressed and why you organized the treatment in the way you did.
What techniques will you do? Where? In what sequence? Why that sequence and why
those particular techniques?
2. Treatment goals
3. Contraindications/cautions
