Here’s what I want you to do: Participate in an informational interview, then write and submit a reflection about what you learned in your experience.
Here’s how to do it: After setting an appointment and submitting your interview questions and receiving feedback or approval (see Informational Interview Appointment and Questions assignment), conduct your informational interview. (Remember the person you interview cannot be a friend or family member.)
Conduct Your Interview
Make a good impression by doing the following:
– Dress professionally for the informational interview and be on time.
-Be prepared and thank the individual for their time.
-Send a thank you note after the interview.
– Use professional paper, a plain notecard, or email. (Do not use a pretty card with flowers and such on it as a thank you note.)
Remember this person will become a part of your network.
Write up your Reflection
Your reflection should include the following:
1. Name and title of the person you interviewed.
2. Why you chose this particular person to interview.
3. Your Eight (8) questions (You don’t need to include the answers.)
4. Two hundred (200) word reflection on your interview experience, including:
What did you learn about this career or occupation from this experience?
Will this person be important to have in your network?
How did you prepare for the interview?
Will you use this process again?
