Follow these directions to write your required 600-word film review about 12 Years a Slave.

When you write about the 12 Years a Slave film, please include the following information: (Note that titles of films and videos are italicized.)
First Paragraph (Film’s Summary):
Introduce the title of the film. State the author of the script or screenplay, and then state the main one or two characters and who were focused in the film. Next, give a 150-word splot synopsis or summary of the film. Just mention the highlights. Your summary is just a point-by-point brief telling of the story. End this paragraph with a sentence that states “In addition to being an interesting (or another adjective) story, the film had an interesting (or another adjective) message. Further, I had both positive and negative reactions to this film.
Second Paragraph (Film’s Message):
In your second paragraph, identify the film’s message. The message is what the writer and director want you and the larger audience to learn from having watched the play or film. You must state this message in a very clearly written sentence that tells your viewer exactly what you think the director wants the viewer to learn from having watched the film. Start this sentence by saying, “The director wants his/her audience to learn that……..”(follow with a complete statement with a subject and a verb.) For example, In The Kids Are All Right the director wants the audience to learn that both homosexual parents and heterosexual parents hope their kids excel in school and grow up to be well-adjusted kids.
After formulating a message statement, you must then explain the statement and describe a scene from the film that shows how the message is realized. This is 150 words. Do not write about more than one message. You may not even throw in just one sentence that refers to a different message.
Then, in your third paragraph discuss ONE aspect of the film you liked. It could be about how the film made you feel? Or it could be about the acting or some technical issue related to the film. This reaction should only be 150 words. State your reaction in the first sentence. Then explain why you had this reaction. Conclude this paragraph by describing a scene that illustrates this reaction.
Finally, in your fourth paragraph discuss ONE aspect of the film you disliked. It could be about how the film made you feel? Or it could be about the acting or some technical issue related to the film. This reaction should only be 150 words. State your reaction in the first sentence. Then explain why you had this reaction. Conclude this paragraph by describing a scene that illustrates this reaction.
Keyboard your papers using the MLA guidelines presented to you. Write four paragraphs. DO NOT GO OVER 600 + or – 5 words. List the word count at the end.
