Do you agree that there is value in having our ideas challenged? What value is there in that if we never come up with answers? And having our fundamental views of the world challenged can be painful according to Plato, especially when there is nothing certain to replace them. It could undermine your religious faith, political beliefs, and other cherished ideas. Doesn’t this just produce alienated intellectuals who don’t fit in anywhere? Where do you stand on these issues? Is philosophy just a dopey requirement that you have to take to complete your degree? If you find benefits to studying philosophy how do they compare with those enumerated by Russell?
