You will enrich your understanding of higher education finance by frequently making connections between principles and topics discussed in class and real-world situations. This paper will be a scholarly review on the following topic prompt pertaining to finance in higher education.
The finances of colleges and universities are increasingly under the scrutiny of policymakers, researchers, and families. Much of the attention focused on money has been in reaction to skyrocketing tuition costs. Questions about whether the escalation of college costs has been justified have translated into calls for greater accountability in postsecondary finance. What arguments
would you pose that would justify the cost of college tuition? What accountability measures would you implement to control the cost of tuition increases? Are college expenditures being devoted to student needs, and if so, what student needs are mostly met, and if not, where is the money going?
Many postsecondary institutions have also become concerned about their own finances as additional external forces have made it more difficult for schools to balance their expenditures with their revenues. What are some of these external forces, and what has been their impact on colleges and
universities as of late?
The paper should include a description of the significance of the issue addressed, a statement of the problem examined a critical review and synthesis of the literature, and implications for policy, practice, and/or future research. Purely descriptive papers are not acceptable. This paper is expected to be 8 pages double-spaced (not including the title page and reference page)
