Describe an example of abnormal behavior from your own experience (either behavior you’ve engaged in or directly observed in others) that could be explained by the sociocultural perspective (use sound judgment in this – share only that which you’re comfortable with). Walk us through that explanation, connecting it clearly to sociocultural theory. Then, tell us if this behavior is something that might someday be considered normal should cultural and social values change (homosexuality and tattoos are recent examples of such).

For this discussion question, pick out one of your favorite pre-packaged foods and take a picture of the nutrition label and ingredient list. You may also be able to find these online. In your post, tell us first why this is one of your favorite foods (Is it convenience? Comfort food? Your secret vice?). Then, detail ONE of the following for your classmates:
1. List any pure elements that are found in the food. Check this against a periodic table to ensure that you are correctly identifying these.
2. Identify any ionic compounds that are found in the food. Remember that these will typically be salts of some kind, but may not be immediately obvious from the name. As an example, remember that monosodium glutamate (NaC5H8O4N) is an example of an ionic compound from your module. (If you have started Activity 1, this will help you with this).
3. Identify any vitamins that are present in the food. Provide your classmates with the chemical formula for those vitamins (or even the structure if you find it online). Do those vitamins have names other than just the letter “Vitamin __”?
4. Were there any ingredients that you couldn’t identify or recognize? Do a quick Internet search and provide your classmates with some information about that ingredient. Be sure to cite your source!

A summary of research on a current controversy:
There are many topics in abnormal psychology which remain highly controversial – your job in this paper will be to describe the research in one of these controversial areas and form your own conclusion based on that research. Some possible controversies you might address include:
* Prescription privileges for psychologists
* Psychological interventions to “correct” homosexuality
* Repressed memory recovery/age regression
* Can divorce result in positive impacts on children?
* Does video game violence cause real -life violence?
* Dramatic rise in prevalence of ADHD diagnosis
* Is past trauma a valid justification for committing crimes?
* Internet addiction – is it real?
* Why do some cope via self-mutilation?
* Nootropic medication – is it ethical to develop drugs that improve cognitive functioning in otherwise healthy people?

This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of controversies; if you want to investigate a different topic, please see me for approval. You will need to review at least three peer-reviewed, empirical journal articles in your paper, and use the evidence as the basis for forming and clearly expressing your opinion on the controversy.
