dopt a microbe guidelines:
How is your microbe identified in the lab? (morphology, stain, differential/selective media, biochemical tests, etc)
List the most common ways in which they come into contact with humans
List all virulence factors that can make humans sick and explain how they work. If virulence factors depend on a serotype, pick the top 3 serotypes and list virulence factors by each serotype.
List the most common signs/symptoms caused by each virulence factor.
List the most common treatments (if treated) for the above signs/symptoms.
List any resistances to antimicrobials and what treatment is being used instead.
Grading: Grading will be a combination of peer grading (25%) and professor grading (75%).
Grading Criteria
Completely and accurately cover each point above in 5 minutes or less (30%).
Creativity – you need to draw* a cartoon of your microbe that conveys their morphology, staining (if possible) pattern, main virulence factors, main illness caused, where it is found, etc. (30%)
Present the information in an organized and concise manner that demonstrates your understanding of what you are presenting (20%).
Delivery – In a relaxed and self confident manner, significantly increase your classmates understanding and knowledge about your microbe. (20%)
But you may not present anyone else’s work as your own work! Your cartoon must be your
work! Can’t draw? Use the shapes in Microsoft Office products. In your presentation everything should be in your own words. You should not be reading someone else’s words. Doing so is considered cheating and you will recieve a zero on this assignmnt.
you need to film yourself making a presentation. The only required presentation aid is your cartoon of your microbe.
It should be under 5 minutes and for the most part it should be off notes, Sources to learn more about your microbe: I’d suggest starting with your textbook. We also have a Bergy’s Manual in the lab. If you use any web resources you need to make sure it is a website that uses factually correct information. All sources should be properly cited.
