For this assignment, to examine and present microdata analysis using SPSS (dataset is provided).
First, you will produce a 5-scripted slides presentation using power-point. This should guide the marker/s through your appraisal and interpretation of findings and conclusions. This information should evidence how you have responded to task 1. Following this, you will present your findings to the module team in the week commencing 23rd November (week 9).
This assignment represents 40% of the overall module mark.

Task 1. What do you need to do?
As economists, your group has been selected to analyse a dataset and draw conclusions for a policy think tank organisation in the UK. You should refer to the following information to complete the task:
On the module Canvas Assignment page, you will find the 2011 Census Microdata file labelled Micro.sav. The dataset obtained from the Office for National Statistics contains information on characteristics of UK residents, such as hours of work, health status, economic activity, etc. You are required to set up and test two hypothesesusing the dataset. You will need to select variables of your interest. It is up to you, which variables you use. You can get some inspiration for hypotheses by watching the news, reading newspapers, articles, etc.

Aims of the investigation and hypotheses
Identify and set up two research hypotheses and highlight their importance. Show that you can think like an economist!
Descriptive statistics
In line with the aims of the investigation, generate descriptive statistics using graphs, tables, etc., with SPSS. You must provide information for the reader about the sample and variables of interests. Explain each statistic.
Hypothesis tests
Set up and conduct hypotheses tests and interpret the results. This section should contain two hypothesis tests. One must be a chi-square test, and one should be a comparison-of-means test (Independent samples t-test). The analysis of your results is very important. Do not just present the statistics with no explanations of what they show! You must also discuss the results! Use economic theory to explain your results. Extra marks will be awarded for evidence of research having been undertaken. This includes relevant references and quotations where appropriate.
Task 2 (Summative) Presentation
0. Use the notes page within the power-point and linked to each slide to include further information that cannot be included in the slide.
Structure (note the 5-slide requirement comprises the title page, main body of key content and references)
• Title slide – this must include names and student numbers
• Content slides (3 slides to address key content and cited evidence to support your presentation)
• The final slide should contain a Harvard reference list of resources cited in your slides.
Following this, you are required to present your findings to your colleagues and the module team. The presentation can be conducted either using audio/video voice-overs of slides or live online via Microsoft Teams or BBB.
