Write an essay in length that analyzes an argument essay found on pages 196-227 of our textbook, Current Issues and Enduring Questions (CI&EQ), and draws on at least one outside source to support your analysis. A sample argument analysis essay (though missing citations) can be found on pages 192-194 of CI&EQ.
Suggestions for Success
When choosing an argument essay to analyze, make sure to choose an one that interests you. Introduce your chosen argument essay, state your stance on the original author’s argument, and preview your main points in your introduction paragraph.
Adhere to an analytical organization strategy. Focus your analysis on the argument essay you have selected and use transition words and phrases to make your writing cohesive.
Analyze your argument essay’s strengths and weaknesses, its use of rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos), and support your analysis with at least one outside source. You may choose to cite your sources in either APA or MLA format and should include citations for both your chosen argument and at least one outside source in your references or works cited section at the end of your paper. Purdue OWL is a quality resource for both APA and MLA citation guidelines.
Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced lines, and indent new paragraphs inch. Do not forget to include your name and and interesting title at the top of your essay and a works cited or references section at the end of your essay. A sample argument analysis essay (though missing citations) can be found on pages 192-194 of CI&EQ. Proper citation formatting resources can be found in the above Purdue OWL resources.
Proofread. Reading your work aloud to yourself and editing in several passes will catch majority of your errors, but you may also choose to reference our past resources and activities to address more technical mechanics issues.
