Can military operations ever be ‘humanitarian’? Discuss.
In discussing this essay question, students will have to
demonstrate an understanding of the term ‘humanitarian
intervention’ and examine its origins. More specifically,
students will have to:
• explain what humanitarian intervention is;
• what explains its rise to prominence in the post-Cold
war era;
• make a case for or against it.
Word count: 500-1000 words (minimum 500 words and
maximum 1000 words). Word count does not include
