Journal Project

This assignment consists of writing 5 journal entries about political events that will transpire during our class. Meaning you can use articles from the first day of class (January 5) up until the day it’s due. Journal entries can cover American politics at any level of government, whether Federal, State, or Local. The journal will be due on Sunday, February 5 and you will submit it in Canvas as a doc or pdf file. It should have a cover page, be double spaced all throughout, typical font (i.e., Times New Roman) size 12, 1 inch margins top/bottom and right/left.

Each journal entry should be structured the following way, failure to follow these instructions will result in points being deducted from your grade:

Journal Entry #1 , Journal Entry #2, Journal Entry #3, etc.

Electronic source: ie., www.cnn.com Links to an external site., www.msnbc.com Links to an external site., www.news.yahoo.com Links to an external site., etc.

Specific Webpage: ie., http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/Americas/7238214.stmLinks to an external site.

Title and date of the article: “Obama Touts Big Bold Action”, February 9, 2009

Summary and Content Analysis: here you should provide a well-rounded summary of the article in at least three to four healthy paragraphs. Then, in a couple of additional paragraphs you should discuss how it relates to the course/content/chapter, and the specific topic covered during the semester.

-Your five articles should be drawn from five different electronic sources, meaning you will use five different news websites.

-Articles should be drawn from five different dates during our semester, not all from the same day.

-Articles should relate to five different topics that we would have covered during the semester. For example if you choose to use an article that covers Congress for one of your entries, the topic of Congress can only be used once.

-Your five entries should all be submitted in one document, meaning you will submit 1 attachment in Canvas not 5 different attachments (this can be easily done by writing up your 1st entry and saving the document, when you are ready to complete your 2nd entry, go back to the saved document and add that entry to it, when you are ready to complete your 3rd entry, go back to the saved document and add to it, the same would apply to entries #4 and #5).

-If at any point you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask, I’m here to help you.

topics to choose from include: Congress, interest groups, campaigns and voting behavior, political parties, the mass media and the political agenda, public opinion and political action, civil rights and public policy, federalism, the constitution, the presidency, federal courts
