Application Discussion 3: Initial Policy Analysis Techniques
We will now practice a brief comparative analysis using an existing document on social security.
Using the Social Security paper posted in this module, identify and discuss the following (elements):
Define the problem succinctly. (Is the problem we are out of money? Is the problem too many people use it? What is driving the Social Security Problem?)
How are we measuring the problem with social security? (NOTE: this is not the actual measurement, but a
description of how we will measure the problem. So, by example, if we have a gap in our personal budget, we
might measure it by the difference between our income and our expenses)
What is the magnitude of the problem? (Here we now state the measure and indicate the size of the problem)
Who are the stakeholders involved?
What is the cause of the problem?
Briefly recap the three policy alternatives.
Using the three options use this table and make an assessment of each of the alternatives. Understanding we
don’t have perfect data, use your judgement to state which of the alternatives are good, better, best in your
opinion-relative to the measure you choose. Then complete a narrative analysis for one of the criteria – making
your case why one is good better best. (It is not necessary to analyze all three in the narrative.) Complete and
include the attached chart and in the narrative briefly discuss, one paragraph each the best alternative given your criteria.
Finally, based on your assessment, which alternative would you choose as the path forward? Why?
I attatched the table that needs to be completed, the document needed to do this assignemt, as well as the word
document format/outline I would like the assignment done. The amount of words included on the word documet
currently is 155 so do not include that in the overall word count.
