This 3-4-page paper will be concerned with analyzing in detail a selection of three to five poems from a given poet and then demonstrating how, via specific literary elements, these poems point to a larger concern: in other words, a motif or theme.

begin with an introduction that briefly but clearly sets out the thesis: i.e., you must have an overarching idea of what the SPECIFIC concern is that you will then seek to prove via body paragraphs of argumentation. These body paragraphs will be constructed like short essays with strong, introducing topic sentences and compelling evidence in the form of paraphrase and quotation. The conclusion will sum up the major arguments deftly and without repetition. Spelling, grammar, and structure will, of course, be of primary concern.
