Purpose: Think about your own life, whether it be present or past… and looking into the future in terms of career or occupational goals. Seeing how we interact in our current time/place epoch and how this affects our job opportunities and our experience in this consumer driven global world. Apply some of the concepts from module 5 and discuss them in terms of the world we live in and your life.
This is what you need to do:
Task: Write a 1.5 page (1 1/2 pages) paper on work – present past and future – thinking about how workers are alienated (Alienation – Karl Marx) from the product and process of their jobs… including your experience if applicable. What type of industry do you work in …? If you don’t work or don’t have much work experience tell me what other people around you do…. maybe friends or family.
Also, how does consumerism affect the version of reality that we live in. Think about how we construct reality.
You only need to use your textbook as a source but it needs to be cited properly.
Criteria: Same quiz rubric as before – seen below. Make it substantive and relate it back to the material being studied.
Quick refresher on Karl Marx’s Alienation:
Alienation – The worker in a capitalist economy invariably loses the ability to contribute creativity or put him or herself into the product of their labor and has little say in working conditions… which then can also translate to personal life and destiny when deprived of the right to think (conceive) of themselves as the director of their own actions.
