Explain the lifespan perspective and its assumptions about development.

The goal of the module writing assignment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of the psychology content presented in this module.

Task

Using your online textbook as the only resource, write an essay about each of these topics; ANSWER EACH NUMBER WITH A 1-2 PARAGRAPH RESPONSE.

1. Explain the lifespan perspective and its assumptions about development.
2. Explain the issues underlying lifespan development.
3. Identify the historical and contemporary theories impacting lifespan development.
4. Compare research methods noting the advantages and disadvantages of each.
5. Explain ways to conduct ethical research.
6. Distinguish between mitosis and meiosis, genotype and phenotype, homozygous and heterozygous, and dominant and recessive.
7. Define behavioral genetics, describe genotype-environment correlations and genotype-environmental interactions, and define epigenetics.
8. Describe the changes that occur in the three periods of prenatal development.
9. Define teratogens and describe the factors that influence their effects. Explain maternal and paternal factors that affect the developing fetus.
10. Describe problems newborns experience before, during, and after birth.
While you are required to use your textbook as a resource, be careful not to simply cut, copy and paste responses from the text. I fully understand and EXPECT you to use some of the same words to explain concepts. You will not receive credit for copying content from the text (or any other source). You must demonstrate understanding by writing essays in your own words. If you quote or copy you risk not receiving credit for the entire response. If you use another person’s work, word for word, it is considered “plagiarism”.

Answer Format

Submit a typed Word document with your responses. You can access Office 365 for free as a Vol State Student.
Include your name on the document and number each response to match the original topic number.
Your answers need to be written in complete sentences.
Be careful to attend to the details of each topic.
Essay Tips

Be careful with being brief. Being too brief will quickly discount your grade. Simply put, “brief” is not good on essay assignments, explain in detail.
Do not search the internet (googling or binging) and attempt to copy responses. The topics are specifically designed to be answered by the online text.
