Initial Post Subject:
Research and choose 1 medical condition that would require a patient to receive basic nutrition education. Explore how diet might affect the progression, development, management of this condition/disease.
First Response:
The medical condition I have chosen is- Heart disease. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. An unhealthy diet of fried foods, bacon, red meats, are foods that are high in cholesterol and can affect your heart’s health by raising your blood pressure and can lead to weight gain, excess weight is also bad for the heart and contributes to heart disease in a negative way.
upon the development of heart disease, there is no cure, but there are healthy foods that can prevent the condition from becoming worse, maintaining a controlled and healthy diet is a great way to help keep your heart going after diagnosis.
Some of the best ways to manage and prevent heart disease are by having a healthy diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, and increasing your intake of whole grains. Monitoring your intake of proteins will also help to keep heart disease under control. The best vitamins for your heart are Vitamin D and Omega-3, so by consuming oatmeal, fish, nuts, and soybean oils, your heart will get these essential heart-healthy vitamins. Exercising regularly and keeping a healthy diet help significantly.

Second Response:
I hope you are all having a great week. The medical condition I chose to write about is Diabetes Type II. This is usually an acquired disease that results from the ingestion of too much sugar. People who have acquired Diabetes type II usually are linked with obesity which can be an underlying disease for CVD (cardiovascular disease). Diabetes can also cause complications like nerve damage which can lead to amputation, kidney disease and dementia. A controlled diet can easily prevent the onset of Diabetes type II. Foods to avoid would be trans fats, sodas and other sweetened beverages, dried fruit, honey and sweetened breakfast cereals. A person wanting to prevent or control their diabetes should eat a wide range of foods, including fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and dairy.
