This short writing assignment provides an opportunity to pause and reflect on significant events that gave further rise to digital technology and helped shape our digital culture.
Rather than writing a reflection on the material, this assignment forces you to make unique connections by exploring themes within two Hollywood blockbuster movies produced during the rise of personal computing and the world wide web. Remember, these two events were particularly prominent in making digital technology available to the masses.
The movie Tron (1982) was produced soon after the personal computer release, while The Matrix (1999) came out during the World Wide Web’s rise. As you watch these two films, reflect on the themes related to what we have covered in the course. If you drift away from these themes, you will miss an opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the material.
