Course description: Moderate stress is a necessary condition of life that can keep us healthyand functional. But, if stress becomes prolonged and excessive, it candeteriorate physical and mental health, reduce human performance, impairrelationships, and corrode one’s personality. All human beings experiencestress in their personal and professional lives. This course provides detailedinformation on the nature and effects of stress and burnout in personal and worksettings. It covers the history of stress management research and thedevelopment of effective stress management programs. Students learn toassess their own stress using simple stress measurement tools. The causes andeffects of general stress, cumulative stress, critical incident stress and theconditions resulting from exposure to trauma events are thoroughly explored.Much of the course emphasizes practical steps to control stress reactions bymeans of practical and reliable stress control methods.
