Consider how children’s responsibilities are depicted by selecting child characters who you consider are expected to act responsibly in some way. Consider how different perceptions of child responsibility in ythe novels relate to assumptions about childhood and growing up in the 20th century.

In each case, how free do the protagonists really seem to be from adult influence?
What is the effect of the presence or absence of adults on how the protagonist (s) act(s) in the books?
