Write an analysis in which you define the overall point of the work, focusing on the way in which
the author dramatizes the relationship between environment and identity as s/he does. To what
extent can the main character/s of the story determine their individual identities, and to what
extent are they at the mercy of forces beyond their control? What is the author saying about that
situation? What is the relevance of the sociohistorical and cultural contexts of the work in
defining the characters’ ability to define themselves? How do the protagonist’s relationships with
other characters reflect and affect his/her identity, and what is the author saying by presenting
those relationships as s/he does? What is the significance of the story’s narrative structure? How
does the ending of the work indicate the authors point about identity?
