Response 1:
When making a decision on an ERP there are several topics that should be considered as it applies to the hardware. Any ERP system will require data storage, means of communication with the end user, and policies in place to make sure the data stays confidential , has integrity, and is available when needed. The lowest technology level of this system could be a whiteboard with sticky notes on it. The sticky notes can hold the data and the whiteboard can display to end users who walk by. A piece of glass can be put in front to make sure no one moves or adds without permission and the building will have a key lock to prevent people from getting in and looking if they are not authorized. For this example they need to make sure that whiteboard is big enough for all the tasks, the room is big enough to hold the people who need to view and that the room is always available.

Some manufacturing companies once used a paper based system to release work on the floor to prevent bottlenecks becoming a storage issue. For a modern computer based system many of the principles are the same. You need to take into account the software that will be used and the corresponding servers and storage devices needed to host the software. The network infrastructure including: routers, switches and firewalls need to be able to handle the amount of traffic that the end users will be using including where they will be using the systems. Finally the policies need to be put in place to make sure that the data is only available to those that need access to the data and that all changes are tracked for changes to mitigate data integrity issues.

Some of the criteria that should be used to make these decisions include compatibility, capacity, performance, security, and cost (Cieciora et al., 2020).

The ERP system should be compatible with the hardware, software, and network infrastructure that is already in place in the organization. This ensures that the new hardware components can integrate with the existing IT infrastructure and that there are no compatibility issues that could negatively impact the system’s performance.

It is essential to consider the expected volume of data, the number of users, and the complexity of the business processes involved. The hardware components should have enough capacity to handle the system workload without causing any performance issues or delays.

The hardware components should be able to provide the necessary processing power and speed to ensure that the system runs efficiently and effectively. This includes factors such as the processor speed, memory, and storage capacity of the hardware components.

Built-in security features such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other security software can protect the system from cyber threats. The hardware components should be configured and installed according to current security practices to minimize the risk of unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security issues.

The hardware components should be selected based on the organization’s budget and the system’s requirements. While it is essential to choose high-quality hardware components that can handle the system workload, it is also necessary to ensure that the hardware components are cost-effective and fit within the organization’s budget (Gómez-Llanez et al., 2020).

By carefully evaluating each of these factors, any organization can choose the hardware components that best meet their needs and maximize shareholder value.

An essential criterion when a business executes an ERP is to intensely analyze internal processes of hardware, software, and people resources, constructing data flow diagrams depicting the approach of planning, configuring, deploying an ERP, and satisfactorily understanding by scrutinizing its components. According to Stair and Reynolds (2018), establishments must define, gather, and prioritize ERP requirements in advance to ensure the details accommodate jointly, reducing the chances of operational problems and gaps. Similarly, requirements specify features a product should include and how those features should function to define the test criteria, which is crucial for verification validation. Conversely, after the processes are defined, a data flow diagram (DFD) visual representation of the information should be developed to deliver a straightforward, efficient method for organizations to implement new processes or systems (Stair & Reynolds, 2018). Comparatively, DFDs support organizations in sufficiently understanding process or system operations discovering potential problems, enhancing efficiency, and designing better methodologies.

Similarly, an entity relationship diagram gives a snapshot of how these entities relate to each, presenting a graphical illustration of the associations between different data entities (Dutta & Kumar, 2022). With this in mind, hardware and infrastructure are the platforms on which the software operates and provides the interface for user interaction. Correspondingly, the central feature of all ERP systems is a shared database that supports multiple functions used by different departments, allowing them to work off the same data set. Consecutively, organizations that decide to operate ERP systems in-house on-premise require several computers connected over a local area network (LAN), with one as the server where the ERP software and database installed locally and responsible for managing servers, desktops, interface, Wi-Fi device configurations, processing power, memory, secondary storage, and peripherals. Consequently, On-premise ERP assets acquired through a one-time, upfront fee and purchased multiple software licenses depending on the number of concurrent users offer the security and control of operating IT infrastructure to connect people, processes, and systems. In addition, organizations must observe the business’s interior structure requiring buy-in from every section to plan the various functions the ERP software has to perform. Congruently, the software is a collection of instructions, data, or programs utilized to operate systems executing specific tasks and functional requirements gathered from end-user, and stakeholders provide valuable inputs in defining the operational needs of the ERP software and selecting appropriate modules and features.

Moreover, every implementation requires changes, and if industries do not have a data flow process to track and communicate these changes to every department, theperformanceon will be highly challenging (Coşkun et al., 2022). For this reason, users of ERP software often require training, hand-holding, coaching, and customer support to acquire familiarity with the brand-new system process improvem t of the updates to the organization’s processes, policies, and feedback, additional features, modifications, and enhancements. Jiwa et al. (2019) validated that successful implementation requires structured model management, complete transparency, and user concurrence at every level of the organization. Therefore, enterprises must ensure employees are briefed on shifts reinforcing the culture built on adopting and capability to operate the new system pushes beyond walkthroughs and tooltips, boosting decision-makers with in-depth application and procedure insight to form crucial business decisions.
