Introduction
In this week’s readings, you considered the question of mutants and superheroes in terms of whether they should be considered fully human, a subspecies of human, or something wholly separate. Each of these approaches has ethical implications, and in this discussion, we will look at the question of who counts as a real “person”
when making ethical decisions about social justice.

Prepare for this discussion by completing your readings and viewings. Then
respond to the following, being sure to make specific reference to at least two of
our readings in your response:
How would you classify superheroes or mutants like the X-Men? Should they be
considered ethically equal to other humans, or do their powers and abilities require us to apply a different set of ethical rules and considerations? Why?
How would the ethical traditions we have studied so far approach the question of
transhuman efforts to alter human genes to make those who can afford it
superhuman? Select two ethical traditions and discuss how they would evaluate the ethics of human enhancement.
