SUBJECT: Action and Horror Movies Review
I am writing this analysis to talk about two of the many different genres that exist in cinema. The
genres of movies that I have chosen are action and horror. After doing my research, I found
information that could be interesting for the public that are interested in these types of genres.
Action movies are a cinematographic genre full of spectacularity with the use of images and
special effects. It is considered part of cinematographic art. The most frequent elements of an
action movie are chasing, both on foot and with vehicles, shootings, fights, explosions, robberies,
and assaults.
The action film categorization arises from the need to classify explosive films, with famous
actors and linear plots, full of spectacularity and opulence. Home movie rentals or rental
locations popularized the name of these tapes as “action”. The story is usually based on a
reduced set of clichés that generally includes:
Hero or anti-hero, a villain, defenseless young woman that the protagonist usually rescues
a comic supporting actor or an animal or a happy ending that usually includes the union or
wedding of the protagonist with the girl. While technological advancement has led to the
substitution of animatronic and computer-generated actors in certain films in recent years,
prominent live-action actors in this genre remain an element of realism, and generally
must/usually have a physically beauty.
And we can see most of these details or descriptions represented in marvel movies, for example,
the avenger series in which we can see the different superheroes and their different qualities.
These types of movies cause a lot of commotion on their release date. All kinds of audiences
already expected them because both adults and children enjoyed them.
In this type of genre, contrary to many horror films, we can see how they need much more
economic investment since the type of production for these films requires more special effects,
scenery, etc.

Another movie genre is horror. Horror movies are one of the most exploited genres in cinema,
this means that not all movies in this genre have the same success, especially when terror can
arise from so many things. However, there are some films that use less production money but
with good ideas that have the opportunity to generate a lot of revenue. For example, the film
Annabelle which was released back in 2014.
“Annabelle was made on a $6.5 million budget and was an absolute hit in theaters, despite some
negative reviews from critics. The long-awaited horror movie managed to rake in $37.1 million.
Naturally, it helped that the film was a spin-off of the already successful Conjuring franchise.
A prequel– a film or story whose events take place before those of a previous work. Released in
2017 after the popularity of Annabelle, called Annabelle: Creation. Due to the success of
Annabelle, the prequel was created with a budget of $15 million, and it went on to make a
staggering $306.5 million worldwide, including $102 million domestic.”(Green, 2022)
The most essential features of horror movies are: the settings and environment, lighting, makeup,
and sound. It is a film genre that seeks to provoke feelings of dread, fear, disgust, and horror in
the viewer through the appearance of some force, event, or character of an evil nature of criminal
or supernatural origin.
In action movies, we can see how most of the time they begin with a romance or suspense plot,
where pathos is present. Since they appeal to the emotions of the public to lead us to the emotion
of what will happen in the film’s development in which we can see how ethos and logo are also
part of the plot by seeing each of the characters take their place and represent each of their
qualities. In action movies, we can see that the primary rhetoric would be ethos, since we always
look and hope to find a hero at the end of each movie.
While in horror movies, we can see that most of the time they play with the emotions of the
public, such as fear, suspense, and curiosity. Since the main plot is about keeping the public
attentive throughout the movie we could say the mystery that pathos is its main rhetorical appeal.

Comma splice/fused or run-on sentence. You cannot connect two independent clauses with a comma. You are expressing too many ideas in this one sentence. Carefully read the sentence and identify the place(s) where one idea ends, and another idea begins. You may be able to connect these sentences with appropriate punctuation or coordinating conjunction.

Thanks Gloria: I really like what you have here and find your writing impressive and you make excellent points about the genres. The assignment, however, asks you to choose ONE genre with TWO examples of that genre. So you would focus on two action film examples or TWO examples from the horror genre. You are also missing whole sections of the required rhetorical analysis such as
4. The Rhetorical Situation of the Genre
● Purpose
● Audience
● Communicator
● Circulation
● Anything else relevant (exigence (section 2b), for example, or historical context (section 2a)
5. The Modalities of Communication
● Visual Modality
● Auditory Modality
● Verbal Modality
And you are missing the conclusion and a works cited page. If you want to revise again, I’d support that, but you will need to follow the template very closely. I’ve left a few comments for your review–please let me know what you’d like to do.
