Anti-Communism in 1950’s America

For this assignment you will find three (3) PRIMARY sources related to one of
the following Cold War themes:
1. Anti-Communism in 1950’s America
2. The Fall of the Soviet Union
3. The Cuban Missile Crisis
4. The Vietnam Wars
One of the wonderful things about the internet for historians’ research are the vast
collections of primary documents that are available. When looking for primary
sources, the simplest method is to simply Google something like “Cold War
primary documents” or “primary sources for the Cold War” or something similar.
Those types of searches will take you to a variety of websites – libraries,
universities, research projects, etc. For credibility and accuracy, stick to
established and reputable sites, such as those from the government, libraries, or
universities. Avoid ‘non-academic’ sites.

The themes above are very broad and you will not have a problem finding primary
sources. The three primary sources you choose can all be from the same site, or
they can be from different sites.

Instructions:
 For one (1) of the primary documents, you are to write a full analysis of that
document, based on the criteria you used in Assignment 1. It will require a
proper reference in Chicago format.
 For all three (3) documents you are to reference them fully and properly in
a bibliography using the Chicago format. Please note that reference form
and bibliographic form are NOT the same, and you can’t simply use one or
the other for both.
The assignment (and the remaining assignments) will be marked for correct use of
the referencing and bibliographic format for a history essay. Historians use the
Chicago format, and it is required for referencing the sources that you use. You
need to be familiar with it if you are studying history. Other disciplines use other
formats, but for a history paper you must use Chicago.
