1. Reflections Presentation (65 points/52%)
a. In addition to the letter and one page inspiration, prepare a 500-650 word informal paper that discusses the following topics:
i. What does your inspiration mean?
ii. Name one concept that challenged you during this course.
iii. What has been the greatest lesson you have learned?
iv. How will what you have learned help you be successful at Chamberlain?
My biggest inspiration is my daughter Mia. Mia has taught me so much, what is true love, kindness, patience and faith. My daughter was born with a Hemangioma, the size of a softball on the right side of her neck. Doctors said when I was 25 weeks pregnant that I should consider abortion because they feared she might not make it through the surgery, due to the fact that her heart was enlarged and working hard to pump blood and feed this mass that was growing. Well, I didn’t listen. With every kick inside me, I knew that she was a fighter and that she would make it. So, I listened and did the same for her. My nursing journey has not been easy, many times I have wanted to quit or throw in the towel, but I didn’t. Being a military spouse, mother, full time medical assistant, and student is not at all easy. You have moments where you feel that you can’t give anymore, and it would make it so much easier to just drop it. But, then you remember who’s watching, and how important this is for you and her. You want your daughter to know that she also didn’t give up, despite how difficult it was. Her mom never gave up on her dream.
One concept that challenged me during this course I would have to say are the Edapts. I heard many stories about the new Edapt program that was added and how people dreaded it. And now I understand why that is. Edpat is definitely very time consuming and tricky at times. The wording in the multiple choice questions at times are every different compared to the readings, so you do need to read the questions carefully before you answer.
The greatest lesson I have learned from a BSN graduate/friend is to remember how important it is to take care of yourself throughout this journey. It is very easy to fall into the cycle of eat, sleep, study. But, we all know how much it can affect our health both physically and mentally. So, make sure to take a moment out of your day or week to reset and focus on selfcare. Whether that is exercise, yoga, practicing mindfulness, etc. DO IT! You will be surprised how much of a difference it will make. And with this I strongly believe that it will help me be successful at Chamberlain because it will help me focus and retain the information while studying for exams and have so much more energy to be able to get through each day.
