Funding proposal

Assignment 1: The Funding Proposal

This is professional document not an academic paper. This grade will count twice. THERE ARE NO REWRITES. There are three homework assignments to put students on the path to success.

Purpose: Introduce student to the planned change process through the identification of need and development of an evidence- based initiative. Students will learn how to identify potential funding sources and develop skills necessary to complete a funding proposal to meet client system need.

Each student will complete this assignment individually. This is not a group project. Each student must identify an evidence-based program for their initiative.

INFORM YOUR FIELD INSTRUCTOR OF THIS ASSIGNMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. With assistance from students’ field instructors, decide upon a project for your program/agency. Larger agencies may have a grant writer to discuss this with. There may be an opportunity to submit a proposal for an innovative project, or one that is ongoing at your placement.

The initiative must adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics, and Cultural Competencies. Students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to consult NASW when considering and developing initiatives.

As stated in the “purpose” of this assignment, students are to develop an initiative. Proposals for the purchase of agency equipment, i.e. fax machine, car, building, another employee are not acceptable. (Educational material for, i.e. a parenting group is acceptable—it is all in the way the proposal is written, but a purchase of a car to transport youth, is not)

Students at DCF and at some schools may have difficulty completing a proposal for their agencies. If students had a positive experience at a 70 hour placement, contact that agency and ask if there is a possibility. If not, talk with me as soon as possible informing me why this is not possible. If a student has already completed senior field, contact agency, and see if it is possible to complete this assignment here.

The Structure/Components of the Funding Proposal

The proposal will be organized as following:

Summary
I. Introduction
II. Problem Statement/Needs Assessment
III. Objectives
IV. Methods
V. Evaluation
VI. Future Funding
(VII. Budget)* *Students DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT A BUDGET. In the real world the person in the agency responsible for finance develops the budget for a proposal. I included it here so students could see where it would go in the document.
The Grantsmanship resource (hard copy) available on RESERVE is the best source to consult
Additionally, students must pay attention to my directions.
Formatting Instructions
• Use the above components (in bold) for headings.
• Use Roman numerals.
• Each heading must be aligned to the left margin. (Turn off automatic numbering/ indentation).
• The headings stated above are boldfaced. There should not be anything boldfaced except the headings
• The document must be double-spaced
• Calibri 11 font
• no additional lines between paragraphs (turn off default), or sections
• Page numbered, top right hand corner
• No headers or footers

Failure to adhere to the above will result in the loss of points. In the funding world committed any formatting errors when provided instructions will result in an automatic denial of proposal.
