Step 1: Define the problems facing AT&T.
Based on my readings, I believe that At&T face a few different issues. Although the merger is great for the business, there seems to be several different factors that roll into making this successful. For starters, it starts at the top with leadership. Establishing how to push the vision and the brand. At&T not only had to compete with others such as Verizon but they also had to compete entities such as Netflix and comcast. Then, how do you promote and encourage new customers to leave the business of cable and come to the streaming world? You have to keep keeping up with the trends of what people desire and what other companies are doing. The more you inherit, the more the more you have to adjust to as the times change and people’s desires change.
Step 2: Identify the potential causes.
There are a few different potential causes that come to mind. I believe the leadership changes at the top are beneficial because it brings more creativity. There are times where some Executives want to make sure their business remains a dominant factor, but as mentioned, you have to adjust to the times. Using HBO as an example, often times, people are cutting the cable line and then streaming more shows. So, using the HBO app has been beneficial with adjusting to the times. You are now seeing more and more cable stations launching streaming sites. This was not the case back then as, if you were not apart of cable, you missed out. I, myself, ran into the issue of whether I wanted to keep cable or start streaming more services. I had to weigh the pros and cons on what stations we were unable to stream and if it was worth it to keep our cable. Now, I am a sports fanatic and until the more recent years, streaming sports was not so available unless you were looking for your local stations.
Step 3: Make your recommendations
I think my recommendation is to continue to establish the vision and the culture of AT&T. With this establishment comes the recognition on how to market the new look. I look at my experience and how I had to weigh my options of livestream versus cable, my focus would be on how to effectively grow and win over the business. Strategic planning is very important for this line of business. A strategic plan is a tool that moves your practice toward a goal you have set. Establishing that goal and reaching the market should be top priority. An all hands-on deck approach would be the most appropriate way to move, a team effort. Philippians 2:2 says, “then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind”. This is a team game on what is best for the company and the creativity and drive for a better, more productive AT&T is very important.
