Enough, what does it mean?
Enough means “as much or as many of something as required.”
In today’s day and age, we have evolved so much. And though the definition of ‘enough’ has stayed the same, the way we think about it, justify it, and explain it, now that’s what changed.
Enough used to represent the necessity or the bear minimum. Now its used to represent just before the line of overdoing it. People have set such high and ridiculous standards such as “if you’re not up by the time your roommate comes home from a party at 5am, doing your 35 step long facial; you’re doing it wrong; you’re doing life wrong.”
Now, to a sane person, that is over the top. Enough in the scene of someone’s life is to ‘do the useful thing, say the courageous thing, and to contemplate the beautiful [things].’
EVEN RUDYARD KIPLING TALKS ABOUT THIS AND HE DIED EIGHTY- SEVEN YEARS AGO!
Kipling tells us that some of the most useful things in life are to “keep your head” up, know who to trust, and to “keep your virtue,” in is poem ‘If.’
Doing something useful will benefit you and help you invest in your future. Doing the courageous thing, such as taking a risk and trying something new will help you build onto what you already have, build your confidence, and help you to achieve and inspire for higher goals.
To contemplate the beautiful things will help you enjoy your life, because there’s no point living it if you’re not enjoying the impact, decisions, and choices that you make.
To oversimplify this quote, there are many thing you might do to have ‘enough’ in life, such to escape the trap of dogma, meaning to stop living by the results of other people’s thinking; Because when you leave, you find more use in your life, understand and achieve better; Achieve the courage, and take the risk to go on a different path compared to the ones that stay; And finally you see and experience the beauty of life.
