Write ONE short essay in response to ONE of the following prompts. Essay should be at least 500 words, and not more than 600 words in length. Use information from assigned readings in the textbook, videos, and at least TWO primary documents (readings from The American Yawp Reader) to support your statements.
1. Discuss why Native American treatment and removal from 1865 to 1890 may or may not be considered an example of ethnic cleansing.
2. Evaluate the rights (civil rights for racial and ethnic groups, women, LGBTQ, etc.) revolution that began in the 1950s and peaked in the 1960s and 1970s. First, grade the success of the revolution on a scale from one to ten (1-10). Then explain your rating by providing a high points of victories and defeats. Issues such as marriage equality and bodily autonomy for women are relevant. Consider the recent U.S. Supreme Court that overturned Roe v Wade (1973)
3. Describe and explain how definitions and levels of freedom have remained the same or changed over the course of this class. Consider the meaning of freedom during Reconstruction, World War I, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, the 1980s, and the present.
