Leadership/Management Problem Solving/Decision Making Professional Paper
The final assignment in this course (draft due week 10 & final paper due week 14) asks you to identify a problem in the workplace or in the profession of nursing.
Provide a comprehensive introduction to the situation, including the background and scope of the problem, all individuals involved in the situation (stake holders), recommended evidence-based solutions, as well as a plan to evaluate outcomes. Make sure you have clearly identified who owns the problem and why.
Then using the Managerial Decision-Making Model apply each step of the model to
reach a decision about the best way to address the problem. Make sure you identify whether a
maximizing or satisfying solution was needed and why. Also make sure you have specific evaluation
criteria that include both process (how you will measure the quality of your decision making itself) and outcome measures (actual outcomes).
Authenticity is important in this paper. Be realistic in your problem solving in terms of the time, energy, and power you have to implement the chosen alternative. In addition, it is important to demonstrate self-awareness in your analysis by discussing what personal values or beliefs might have influenced your
choices.
Writing Expectations—8-10 pages, double-spaced, not counting title page and references. APA 7 format required (title page, citations in body of paper, and reference list). An introduction and conclusion are
required. Be sure to look at the example paper provided in week 5. Introduction, background, Scope of
Problem, stake holders, solutions to attempt, how outcomes will be evaluated, what a satisfying solution would look like, decision making model, conclusion are your headers. You need at least 5 evidence-
based references within the last 5 years and you may use your text book and any articles provided for
you in your modules as extra.
I have choosen to discuss, Adequately Trained Nursing Staff
As nursing shortages get worse, employers are often forced to seek less educated professionals who
lack the extensive training or expertise needed to provide a high standard of care. Ongoing training
can help to bridge this divide, but it can be difficult to dedicate sufficient time or resources to this
when facilities are perpetually short on both. This sort of professional development training has had
to take a back seat during the pandemic, when hospitals are grossly understaffed, undersupplied, and
overwhelmed.
Nurse leaders play an important role in hiring and training staff, looking not only to credentials on
resumes when making decisions, but also determining how specific skillsets might be beneficial in a
particular environment. Once promising staff members have been hired, it is up to nurse leaders to
ensure that they continue to improve with help from ongoing training and actionable feedback.
