Before you begin to write the paper, there are some important issues that must be followed for this course. Your APA-style written project will have a Cover Page, an Abstract Page, the Body of the Paper, and a References page. Here are some overall rules that must be followed:
• You may not use any of your class textbooks as reference sources for this research paper. Rather, you are to look up new sources via PsychInfo or PsychArticles or ProQuest Psychology Journals found here on the Iona University website: http://guides.iona.edu/az.php?s=11398
• Your paper must have a minimum of 3 reference sources (minimum of 2 of must come from psychological journals). The preferred types of reference source materials will come from psychological journals.
• Wikipedia, About.com, and similar generic websites may never be used as a reference source. If you have a question about the source, please contact Dr. Theodore.
• The entire paper must be 12 point font, Arial style, double-spaced, with 1 inch borders all around.
The entire Body of the paper is expected to be paraphrased. That is, there will be NO quotes allowed in this paper whatsoever. Every paragraph in the paper’s Body, from the first paragraph to the last paragraph, must be paraphrased and must contain in-text citations (in correct APA format) to let the reader know where you acquired the information that you paraphrased. Personal opinion, and personal reflection, are not to be conveyed in this type of paper. Rather, you are to convey ONLY the findings published by other authors through paraphrasing their work and placing an APA-style in-text citation in each and every paragraph of the Body of your paper to let the reader know where you got the information. Since you are summarizing literature in this literature review, this paper WILL NOT have sections in the Body that resemble a scientific experiment (so, for example, there will be NO separate Methods sections, and NO separate Results section, because you are not writing-up an experiment). You are simply writing a review of the literature that exists on the topic you chose.
NOTE: Do the Abstract page as the very last thing you write for the paper, as it summarizes in 100 to 200 words the entire Body of the Paper. So, once you have written the Body of the paper, you will only then be able to construct the Abstract (summary) of the paper written.
