Chosen career path- Counsellor

You will explain your career plan in 5 minutes on Zoom. The career plan will be expected to cover three areas (please see below):

1) Knowing why (1 minute 30 seconds): what factors have motivated you to choose this career pathway? These could include occupational interests, strengths and/or values. (25 MARKS)

• Justification of your choice of career in relation to your values, interests and/or strengths.
• Evidence of self-reflection and evaluation (this could include tests, self-assessments and/or reflection on previous experiences).

(personal reasons for joining are- wanting to help people overcome difficult challenges they may face during their lives eg- depression, grief, anxiety etc…), supporting people emotionally and physically overcome challenges) — add some more relevant reasons

2) Knowing what (2 minutes): what career are you interested in pursuing in the future? This should logically flow from ‘knowing why’ and should also include your knowledge of factors affecting that area of work in the future. You should use labour market information and/or industry information to interpret current challenges and opportunities and understand how these may affect your chosen area of work. (30 MARKS)

• A clear logical flow from ‘knowing why’ to ‘knowing what’ (the values, interests and/or strengths mentioned should be relevant and specific to the chosen career).
• Research and understand of labour market and/or industry information in relation to chosen career.
• Consider the impact of global citizenship on your chosen career.

3) Knowing how (1 minute 30 seconds): you will need to discuss three practical steps that you will take to get into this career. These will need to be achievable based on your current and future personal circumstances. (20 MARKS)

• The proposed development activities should be specific to the chosen career (generic statements should be avoided).
• Proposed development activities should be detailed and realistic, given your own situation.

(finish university and gain my health and social care diploma, find a voluntary job for experience in my chosen career, eventually find a suitable job for myself )
