c) Answer Questions:

1.) Who is present in these clips? What words or phrases are being used to describe ideal and unideal dance/dancers in these clips? (bullets ok, 50-100 words)

2.) How is jazz dance compared to modern and ballet in the videos? Do you see any resonances to Uprooted? Explain 2-3 ways the readings (Kraut and Koza) provide context to the ways these dancers (in the videos) are compared and valued. (50-100 words, make sure you add the YouTube videos to your reference list).

3.) Optional: Note any additional questions you have.

Some things to keep in mind during this activity:

Make sure to capture specific examples from the film as well to use as evidence for your interpretations (i.e. answer the question I will invariably ask you: “Why do you think that?”).
We only have access to what is in the video and there are many things that have happened before and after in these video clips. You are welcome to wonder about those too, but always make sure to connect back to specific examples from the video.

5. Watch Lecture on Amie’s Master Thesis Research (completed 2021) and Complete Portfolio Activity 3.2.2:
In the lecture, connections are drawn to the current ways dance bodies are racialized such as using the terms, civilized, evolved, wild, and tribal for example. In your opinion, what are the strengths of these connections? And in what ways might those connections be limited? Then, explain how you might extend those connections to the ethics of teaching dance. (Max 150 words, use the readings this week and lectures in the past to support your answers).
