The Chapter 5 Excel Project Download Chapter 5 Excel Projectcovers the content in Chapter 5, but is due after you take your exam. The purpose of the assignment is to make sure you know how to use particular functions in Excel. Its purpose is NOT to ensure you know how to do calculations by hand. (That is what your test is for.) Therefore, your grade will be determined by whether or not you used the appropriate functions in the appropriate manner, not whether you have entered correct values that were calculated by hand. Please follow the directions Download directions, and look at the grading sheet Download grading sheetto ensure that what you did was what I was looking for. I anticipate that students will spend 2-3 hours on this project. (Obviously some take more and some take less.) Please do not wait until the last minute to start it. Your group should contact each other right away to set up a time for an initial project meeting. If you have sent an email to your group and haven’t heard a response from them within the first week, please alert me to this right away so that I can intervene.
Also, please leave all formatting the way it normally displays in Excel. Students who tend to “show off” tend to get worse grades, since changing the formatting may affect my ability to judge whether or not you used the functions that were asked.
Finally, this is a group project to be done with your normal weekly worksheet groups. You each have an assigned role based on the Excel Project Structure Download Excel Project Structure. If you forget the responsibilities your role brings, refer back to this document.
The Recorder will need to save the completed assignment to his/her computer and then upload the file into Canvas. Please alter the name of the assignment when you save it to your computer to be your group letter.xlsx so that I can easily recognize whose assignment is whose while grading. Please do the work in the spaces provided on the spreadsheet. If it takes you more room than what was allotted, you are doing something wrong.
Note: This is an EXCEL project, and excel should do all the computations for you. I know some of you are Apple people and would like to use Numbers for the project. Others of you prefer Google Sheets. Please do not do these. My office computer will not be able to read your assignment if it is done in Numbers, and the Business School wants everyone taking this course to be familiar with Excel. If you do not have Excel on your home computer, you can come to campus to complete the project or download the student version of Excel.
