Thinking back on your experiences with the course materials so far Identify a contention, idea, or argument that especially caught your attention. It could be a point-of-view expressed in one of the readings that shocked you, angered you, relieved you, or made you feel especially hopeful. What matters most is that you pick something that sparked your emotions and cognitions and got you thinking. Ideally, it might be something that caused you to question your previously-held beliefs.
Once you’ve identified that contention, do the following:
1. Start your paper by writing out (or effectively describing) the contention on which you’ve chosen to focus your paper. Be sure to attribute it accurately.
2. Describe, in your own words, the necessary context and main point being made in this contention. Assume you’re writing this description for someone who is completely unfamiliar with the issue.
3. Systematically explore your reactions to the contention. For example, explain how it made you feel, how it connected or conflicted with other things you’ve learned, how it is similar or different from any experiences you’ve had, etc. In short, thoroughly explore and describe (1) why you think this contention stood out to you so strongly, and (2) in what ways it has (or will) influenced your own viewpoint/s. This section should account for the majority of your paper.
4. For the final section, I want you to seek out 2 to 3 additional sources about this topic. Explain your search process (i.e., how did you find these sources), list the sources, and then explain why you think these particular sources would provide you with additional valuable information about the topic.
