This assignment aims to ask each student to share their understanding, research, and knowledge about an IA-related topic of their choice. In this way, students can explore broader issues of IA even beyond the scope of the course through their own or peers’ presentations.
Each student selects a topic of interest during the semester to do a topical presentation. Such topics should have relevance to Information Architecture (IA). For each topic, the student prepares a PowerPoint presentation and uploads it on the discussion board of that week (and also submit it through Assignment#1 drop-box). S/he can use any visual aid to help with the presentation. The topics can be anything from tools and software being developed for IA, remarkable or novel IA practices, debates on any IA issue(s), stories on frustrations of using ill-designed IA, benefits, and advantages of using well-designed IA, etc. Besides presenting the artifact (IA example), students must point out the IA relevance or IA issues related to the artifacts. This is where you apply the knowledge learned in class for your presentation. The length of a PowerPoint presentation should be about 8-10 pages.
If you are uncertain about your topic, please check with the instructor. The topical presentation must be done before Week 16. Each student needs to sign up for the topical presentations on the discussion board. Please upload your presentation to the discussion board (by adding a new thread) before Tuesday of the week that you sign up for your topical presentation. Therefore, the due date of this assignment varies by student. You also need to submit your presentation file (named Topical_Yourfirstname) under Assignment to get the grade.
Note: We will have discussions based on the topical presentation(s). I will also count your comments on your colleagues’ topical presentations as your discussion participation.
