Student Introductions
Overview
This is where you will introduce yourself, as well as meet your classmates and instructor. You will get acquainted with the Yuja software by uploading a video recording of yourself. This video recording will give you an opportunity become familiar with the process of uploading videos, as well as offer space to make a more personal introduction in which you discuss the importance of public speaking, explain what you hope to learn from this course, and consider what gifts you would like to share with the world.
A friendly reminder that this discussion board is moderated. This means that you will not see other students’ posts until you post your response. Setting up the discussion boards in this way helps to encourage doing your own thinking and your own work.
To complete your initial post:
Upload a photo to your profile. This will help us identify and get to know one another more easily. If you are not comfortable posting a photo of yourself, you can upload an image that represents a part of your identity. For example, if you’re a dog lover, you might upload a cute photo of your dog, or if you’re a hiker, you might upload a photo of your favorite mountain peak.
Next, record and upload a Yuja video of yourself answering the following questions. Videos should be 2-4 minutes in length. Read the How to Create and Upload Videos Using Yuja tutorial for guidance.

Based on the reading, Stand up, Speak Out: Public Speaking in the 21st Century 1.1 Why Is Public Speaking Important?, tell us which aspect of importance resonates with you the most. Why is public speaking important?
What do you hope to learn from this class?
In her TED Talk, “How Public Speaking Will Change Your Life,” Communication Consultant and Professor Bridget Sampson says that “…every single one of you cannot afford to avoid or suffer through public speaking. If you do, you will absolutely miss out on opportunities to share your gifts with the world” (2017). What is a gift that you would like to share with the world?
Response Posts: Read your instructor’s and fellow classmates’ posts. Post a reply to at least two other students’ initial post. It’s great if you reply to someone who has interests or goals similar to yours. Make sure to also reply to any students who respond to your initial post.
