Guidelines for the Research Experiment and Paper
Each student will be required to complete a research experiment of their choice related to the field of Forensic Science. You may pick the topic you wish to complete, but you must have the topic approved by the instructor prior to completing the project.
Think of the research experiment as a science fair project on steroids. Each student should follow the scientific method by:
Picking a topic to study
Form a question regarding that topic
Develop a hypothesis
Determine a way to test the hypothesis
Identify previous research done (by others) regarding the hypothesis
Test the hypothesis
Report whether the hypothesis was correct or not.
Following the research experiment, you will be required to write a paper about your experiment. You should include a historical review of the science behind your research project, the reason you chose to complete your specific project, a description of your experiment, and the results.
Your paper should not be longer than 8 pages and should include a cover page and reference list.
The following guidelines should be used to write your paper:
The scientific method should be followed
The use of technology to enhance your typed paper is encouraged
The paper should be written in APA format
The paper should be double spaced
The paper should be written in Microsoft Word
A title page and reference list should be included in the paper
The paper should be no longer than 6 pages (not including title & reference list pages)
There should be a minimum of one reference per page
The textbook should only be used once as a reference
WIKIPEDIA IS NOT CONSIDERED A REFERENCE
The research paper should be submitted under the research paper link in the content
section of the course website
The research paper is worth 100 points
The rubric for the research paper will be as follows:
Title page with all required elements 10 points
Grammar and Spelling 20 points
Content 50 points
References in the body of work 10 points
Reference List 10 points

Last Completed Projects
