While Nehemiah is not as well known as other leaders in the Old Testament, such as, Moses, Joshua, David, etc. Nehemiah’s situation was extremely different than any other leader in the Old Testament. Nehemiah was leading Jews to retake the land of the Canaan, but rather this land was already “claimed” by the Persians, after they took it over from the Babylonians, who succeeded in taking the land militarily, from the Jews about seventy years earlier. Nehemiah’s job was not take the land back from the Persians, but rather to re-establish a Jewish presence in the land again, which he would do. The question for us is this, what made Nehemiah an effective leader? In the journal article, “What Made Nehemiah an Effective Leader?Links to an external site.” the author outlines several major leadership principles that helped make Nehemiah an effective leader. For this discussion, please read the article, and then in your discussion, discuss which leadership principle you think aided Nehemiah most in leading the people of Israel, and why to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, rebuild the Temple, etc. Remember for the discussion you initial post needs to be at least 200 words, and you must respond to at least two classmates, in with at least 100 words apiece.
