There are environmental benefits, construction products, medicinal products, biotechnology products and of course food products. Choose 5 uses of plants that you did not know about before exploring these sites. Choose one ecological benefit, one medicinal product, one biotechnology product and 2 other products of your choice that you did not start out aware of in detail. Research these products and find information on the “domestication” of the plant that produces the product, if it has been domesticated.
Topics to consider:
Specifics on how this plant is used and why it is a good product for the use.
What part of the plant is being used and is it renewable?
Find out about the sustainability of this product….are we driving the species to extinction or is utilizing this resource a detriment to the environment?
Is there anything (diseases) that are affecting our ability to utilize this resource?
If it is an ecological benefit, consider human activity affect on the species and long term consequences of using the resource.
I would like your discussion to include information that is not every day, common knowledge.
