Introduce the topic – explain the key word and idea in the hook; give the importance of this in today’s situation/society
Connecting sentence – connect the ideas with the Bible story – mention characters or events in the story
Thesis statement – very specific with a roadmap to show your reader what your main points will be.

Background Paragraph:
Introduce the genre and the author
Describe the historical context while the author wrote this book
WHEN – time period
WHERE – location
WHAT was happening at that time (ex. what happened right before or right after this story)
Present the major themes that are found in the whole book (not just your story)
This is the last sentence in the background paragraph. It is a transition from the background to the specific ideas for your paper.
Use the key words of the theme in this sentence. BUT do not just repeat the thesis statement.
