Goal & Reflection

This assignment has two goals.
First, it gives you the opportunity to accrue credit for all the “behind the scenes” work that went into arriving at polished drafts of your three previous writing assignments.
Second, the portfolio gives you the opportunity to reflect on the work you’ve done and the things you’ve learned about writing this semester.
In pursuit of goal 1, you will submit a series of “process documents” that you have created and compiled throughout the term. You will organize these documents by listing them on a table of contents. Potential process documents include materials such as outlines, workshop notes, false starts, rough drafts, and/or text you cut from the finished products. You may or may not have things like outlines or false starts, but everyone should have workshop notes. Here is a list of some possible process documents:
Workshop notes
E.g. Your notes from the “Why does my writing story need to be written?” workshop
Reading notes (handwritten or typed)
DCA Workflow Doc
Genre Analysis Workflow Doc
Outlines
Mind maps
False starts
A satisfactory portfolio will include at least three process documents. An exemplary portfolio will include four or more process documents.

In pursuit of goal 2, you will craft a piece of reflective writing. This Final Reflection allows you to re-count and reflect on the writing processes you’ve engaged with this semester. This will, of course, be a deeply individualistic piece of writing. However, as you begin drafting this document, you may want to think through and respond to some of these questions:
What have you learned about writing this semester?
How did you interact with the feedback you received in this class?
Where do you see yourself succeeding as a writer?
Were there any approaches to writing that you tried that didn’t seem to work? How did you reorient yourself?
What writing-related knowledge might you need to be reminded of in the future?
What makes writing hard?
What perspectives, techniques, or strategies make it more manageable?
What kinds of goals or priorities will you set for future writing situations?
What are you the most confident about in terms of your own writing?
Your final reflection should be approximately 500 words in length, it should draw upon at least two-course readings, and it should follow APA formatting conventions.
What makes it good? 1.) Demonstrating your writing process through the inclusion of “behind the scenes” documents, 2.) Crafting a cohesive reflection that illustrates self-awareness and writing-related knowledge.
Formatting and Timeline. The portfolio should be organized as a single document (Word or PDF) that bundles a table of contents, the various process documents, and the final reflection. The Final Portfolio is due on our last day of classes, and it is worth 20% of the course grade.
